Title of Challenge
Reduce Belgrade’s Carbon Footprint
Description of city challenge

We invite entrepreneurs, innovators, students, designers and others to team-up and spent 24 hours together to find innovative solutions to reduce Belgrade’s carbon footprint. These solutions can include areas such as measurement of CO2 emissions, improved public transport, energy-efficient buildings, alternative fuels and mobile energy sources, low-carbon electricity supply, strategic urban planning and many others. Bring your idea, bring yourself and let’s be creative together!

The Climate COP 21 in Paris last year has set the road to combat worldwide climate change. Cities are important players in this scenario, since they produce 70% of the world’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and house more than 50% of the world’s population (source: UN). The success of the Paris Agreement ultimately will depend on changes made on local level.
Each person produces every day, directly or indirectly, a certain amount of CO2 and other greenhouse gases that are emitted into the atmosphere. These emissions are a result of driving your car, heating your house in winter, cooling your house in summer, flying to your holiday destination, throwing away your waste, and many others. The overall amount of these emissions, expressed in equivalent tons of carbon dioxide, describe your „carbon footprint“. The carbon footprint can be measured on all levels: per person, per household, per company, per city, per country, etc..
If every city in the world minimizes their carbon footprint, it would have a large impact on the worldwide greenhouse gas emissions and consequently slow down global warming.
