The global Climathon will also take place in key cities across Italy. Below, the organisers provide an overview of the hackathon's challenges in some of them.
On 27 October people across Italy will participate in a global climate action hackathon. The global Climathon movement is powered by the EU's climate innovation initiative, Climate-KIC.
"Milan challenges participants on energy issues for a sustainable city.
In Lecce, the theme on which the innovators will be confronted is "the Sea and the City Center" while the Venice Climathon will be about how art can tell the impact of climate change.
In Matera, Sustainability Experts will wonder how to make the city a 'Green' European Capital of Culture.
The use of Copernicus satellite data for the development of green and blue grids in cities is the theme chosen by Bologna, that hosts the Italian headquarters of Climate-KIC."
Internet of Things
"The theme of using internet of things to improve the environmental resilience of the city will be addressed in Turin, while Florence will seek solutions to mitigate the impact of extreme weather events.
In Naples, the theme of the challenge will be "Vesuvio Rangers", which will engage innovators who will have to find a solution not only to protect citizenship from a possible revival of the volcano, but also to help protect the environment of the area.
In Assago (MI) we will work on urban green spaces, in Alessandria on energy efficiency and sustainability, in Sassari on urban resilience.
Cagliari, Trento and Cesena will focus on water, Ferrara on sustainable mobility, Magliano Sabina (Ri) will work on the Tiber as a collective good and Salerno on mobility and smog."
