Climate change measures simply aren’t working in Birmingham and are hitting our poorest hardest.

We want to engage with our citizens to accelerate Birmingham’s work in helping tackle climate change and encourage everyone who lives here to think and behave differently, and together address the environmental and well-being issues we all face.

We desperately need our citizens collaborating to help shape and create a greener place to live, work and play in. At the end of the day it is the people who live in Birmingham who should have the biggest say about how they want to tackle climate change issues.

Join us in an immersive 24 hours in the life of Birmingham City. Experience the reality of what communities wake up to, travel, work and play in. Talk to people, participate in some of the things they do, to really understand the challenges being faced and see what the barriers to the behaviour change are.

Using different modes of transport, we'll be moving around the city to understand the real issues for people most affected by under strain environments. After each stopping point, we'll be pausing to contemplate and start to shape ideas based on meeting people that are being impacted every day.

Challenge

It has to be by finding ways that citizens can healthier and more sustainable lives. Traditional approaches are not working. Our goal must be to live well and collaboratively. So, we need to encourage people to help themselves by thinking, talking and working together. So come join us!

How can we tackle climate change within our poorest communities?

To tackle climate change we need to ensure that everyone, from an 8 year old to an 80 year old has their say about how to create sustainable happy communities. Our more disadvantaged citizens need to have a say about tackling climate change in the context of their, often difficult, circumstances.

Next Climathon Event 26th October 2018

What's in it for me?

TAWS will give you a whirlwind tour of 24 hours in the life of Birmingham City - the likes of which you are unlikely to have experienced before.

On the day we will surround with experiences, residents, academics, service providers, activity providers, volunteers, politicians and anything else we can think will prompt thought and discussion - all there to help you challenge the "norm" and help us create some innovative but practical solutions to our challenges.

You will leave after 24 hours exhausted but stimulated and hopefully committed to helping tackle climate change here and anywhere else you come across it.

We know Birmingham City needs help. We need citizens and communities to get involved. It’s not about being told what to do but agreeing what to do. Together, let's find ways to impact climate change and improve wellbeing at a grass roots level. This is a chance to support a huge shift in the city, helping to find solutions to tackle climate change that benefit our poorest communities rather than hitting them hardest.  #8To80Wellbeing

You never know, if with your help we find ways to get it right, we can share what works in our incredibly diverse communities with other poor communities from across the globe to encourage and help them find practical and positive ways to tackle their climate change issues.
