This agricultural start-up focuses on decreasing arable land, utilizing unused water bodies and producing contamination free food more conveniently.

Solution context

We have designed this business plan because contamination free food is a consumer's basic right. We all know, contaminated food can lead up to chronic diseases like cancer. Also it is high time we developed other ways to increase our production of vegetables and eradicated the problem of limited land sources in our country. Vertical farming is the practice of producing food in vertically stacked layers. Basically, it ensures more vegetable production with an 167% increase of arable land in vertical space than traditional land sources. By making it a floating system , we are shifting the minimum base area to unused water bodies from horizontal lands. Ultimately we have developed an agricultural system, where we will be integrating both vertical and floatng farming system. We believe that it will bring a revolutionary change in the traditional way of farming ang many other cities in Bangladesh and our neighbouring countries can adapt this plan to develop their food production system.

Solution description

Our solution is divided into two modules.

In our first module, we will provide a base of plastic floaters using 1.3*1.3 sqft plastic blocks near banks of waterbodies. Floating anchors will keep the structure sturdy and prevent it from floating away. There will be 4 shelves per shelf having five trays for growing vegetables. We will basically mix coco-peat with organic fertilizers and turn it into a green soil. Through this, we can ensure completely contamination free vegetables also known as organic or green vegetables in production level. Through this process there is near to zero possibility to get attacked by insects. Even if it happens we can easily dispose the tray that is affected. Here there is no possibility of mass destruction of vegetable plants.

Our second module is basically green roof. We will target the buildings owned by a sole owner and society based hig-rised complex builidings. Basically we are encouraging 'know what you eat.' Through this people can grow fresh vegetables in their own homes and consume them. The main infrastructure and the process will be same as the first module just we will use the roof boundary area to establish shelves.
