The aim of the game: climate protection. That’s why mobility needs to offer choice, flexibility and accessibility for consumers. We want to provide an all-inclusive mobility solution through improvement of first & last mile mobility offers and capacity enlargement of existing rolling stock.

Solution context

Currently, there are not enough mobility offers to cover the first & last mile in rural areas.

In addition, lack of information and a jungle of many different mobility apps make it difficult to find the easiest way from A to B in a sustainable way.

Due to this situation, people prefer using their own cars instead of more sustainable ways of travelling.

In urban areas, lack of capacity during peak times hinders people from using public transport. Delayed and packed trains leave customers frustrated.

As the highest impact in saving CO2 emission comes from moving daily commuters from road to railways, we have focused on this target group.

Solution description

By creating an all-inclusive mobility platform (AIM), where all mobility offers are bundled, combined, optimized and bookable, the entire journey becomes hassle-free and sustainable.

The platform includes different mobility providers, like scooter-, bike- and car-sharing providers, cabs, autonomous driving and existing public transport. The application provides customers with different options for the requested route. According to user preferences, different options are available: fast, cheap, comfortable, eco-friendly.

This leads to higher attractiveness of sustainable public transport and thereby increases the number of passengers. To cope with the greater demand, a higher capacity of rolling stock is required. We address this issue by changing the interior design of trains: removing 1/3 of seats, changing the position from parallel to serial seating arrangement and enhancing functionality (folding chairs). To speed up the on- and de-boarding process we will enlarge train doors, widen the entrance area within trains and indicate boarding readiness by a traffic light system. As a result, train service becomes more reliable, punctual and accessible.
