Solution context

Mexico city faced a huge problem with air pollution, just in a year it's produced 20,995,922 tons of CO2 which have a direct impact in human health.

Solution description

Our product is an ornamental element that helps companies and small business interested in improving their air quality in their environment by a natural air purifier that reduces air pollutants and increases the percentage of oxygen in their surroundings. 

The main elements of our prototype are water and algae spirulina, which consume CO2, NOX, PM10 and PM2.5 in its growth and produce oxygen. The design of our product consist in a modular hexagonal cell that allows us to define the necessary size that the equipment must have as a whole depending on the air purification capacity of the site.

The purification process consists of pumping air through the cells where pollutants will be consumed by the growing algae releasing oxygen to the environment. By using the modularity of the design, the purification capacity of the equipment can be increased up to 500 kg per a group of four cells.

However, this is not the only one benefit of our product, because we can also use the waste of this system to produce spirulina algae powder (the superfood), every three to six months we will remove the overproduction of the algae spirulina with the main goal of create a multiprotein snack for children, who don’t consume the minimum quantity of proteins per day. We can make contact with this group of people making an agreement with an mexican institution (DIF), which are in charged of the children in Mexico city. Actually, one of their social care programme is providing free breakfast to children in poor regions. Sometimes this breakfast is the only protein consumption that they have in a day. Therefore, taking into account that the Algae spirulina have more than 60% of protein, we would love to collaborate within this programme creating high protein content snack to help in the health improvement of those children, while we in consequence achieve one of our goals.
