Water harvesting in impluvium roundabout

Our idea is to install in critical spots of the city innovative roundabouts that allow water harvesting in case of exterem waether event (flood, heavy rain)

Solution context

We live in a world that in the near future iS going to face more and more often situation of extreme events linked to climate change as floding heatwaves, drought, wildfires and floods. In the city of Rome during the last years flooding caused a lot of problems to the population, paralizing the mobility and exposing people to high risks.

Solution description

RotHO focuses on this topic, not claiming to solve entirely the prolem, because it is a a context that involves also the state of the infrastructure but it wants to be a solution to apply to support the existing in order to better manage the floodig issue in Rome.

RotH2O is a roundabout that at the undergound level has a big tank that allows the water harversting during heavy rain or flooding. This is composed by two different layer. The layer on top looks as a typical rundabout but with grass and soil that absorb water and release it slowly. Around this layer there is a cavity that allows the water to pass trough and to go underground in order to be collected to the thank. We imagin taht this tank is connected to the urban dreinage system and that the water collected can be used for the garden or to clean the streets.
