Climathon is back to Reykjavík! This is an open call for ideas to enhance existing development: edtech, healthtech, greentech, autotech, planning & design, community engagement strategy, etc. Anything!

In addition to the cash prize, winning team will receive the opportunity to discuss their idea with policymakers and consultants to discuss how to take the project further.

With the Hlemmur mobility hub development, new Borgarlínan City Line and transportation being the highest greenhouse gas emission sectors, how can citizens and government co-create sustainable and resilient mode of mobility?

Co-create Mobility Hub - Reykjavík

Hlemmur Mobility Hub

Ideas were sought for planning arrangements with regard to the availability of high-quality public transport in the area and a new design for a square in the area around Hlemmur.

Borgarlínan City Line

Borgarlínan City Line is a wheeled rapid transit system (BRT) that runs on dedicated spaces with priority at intersections, increasing reliability, efficiency and service. The frequency of trips will be high, stations will be covered, attractive and comfortable with good access directly into the carriages.

Greenhouse Gas Emission - Reykjavík

Transportation being the highest greenhouse gas emission amongst all sectors.

Co-create Mobility Hub

Looking for innovative ideas of EdTech, HealthTech, GreenTech, AutoTech, Planning & design, Product, Community engagement strategy, etc... for our future mobility hub in Reykjavík. In additional to other prizes, the winning team will have the opportunity to meet with policy-makers from the City of Reykjavík and discuss how to take the idea further.

Together we enhance the existing policy and development in Citizen empowerment, City planning, Public safety, Economic opportunity, Environmental sustainability, SaaS, MaaS and more!

In addition to cash prize, winning team will also receive the opportunity the discuss their project with policymakers and companies to see how to take it firther.

Meet the Organizer - City of Reykjavík

Reykjavík was the first municipality in Iceland to make a policy on reduction on green house gas emissions in 2009. In 2016 the Reykjavík City Council decided to go further and make even more ambitious goals: Reykjavík City will be carbon neutral by 2040. „Cities play a key role in the fight against climate change. They can react quickly and have many possibilities of enacting change,“ says Dagur B. Eggertsson, Mayor of Reykjavík.

Climathon RVK is part of the citizen engagement program to get residents involved in co-creating the future development of the City of Reykjavík. The event supports SPARCS, a European Commissions research program. It also supports the societal vision of the City Vision Reykjavík 2050 and Reykjavík Green Deal.
