Climathon is a global movement dedicated to solving climate challenges, which will have a physical local headquarters in 2022 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. With an issue as pressing as climate change, we cannot afford inaction.

How?

The Climathon movement is revealed in a 24-hour hackathon. During it business people, students, developers and all kinds of people from different disciplines come together to solve a climate challenge facing our city.

When and where?

The Climathon will take place on 16&17 December 2022 at the CDTIC (Centro Demostrador de las Tecnologías de la Información y la Comunicación para la Innovación Turística) on Canary Islands Fairground (Infecar) located in the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Climathon Las Palmas de Gran Canaria 2022 is organized by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria (Gran Canaria Island Council), through the Consejo Insular de la Energía and the Sociedad de Promoción Económica de Gran Canaria (SPEGC), together with the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC).

Gran Canaria Island Council is a public public business entity working to implement an alternative energy model on the island of Gran Canaria in order to achieve maximum energy sovereignty in Gran Canaria through the use of Renewable Energies. Therefore, the competencies of the CIEGC affect, directly and indirectly, the methods by which Cabildo de Gran Canaria(Island Government) prevents and deals with the development of climate change on the island. Among the activities that it develops are: - The training of professionals in the energy sectors in the field of energy efficiency - The training and awareness of citizens in a more efficient use of their energy demand. - The promotion of the use and implementation of renewable energies, as well as savings and efficiency in the energy sector
