Generating Ideas for Climate Transition in Limerick
A Climathon brings a city community together to collaborate on addressing local challenges to climate change issues. We're excited to hear from local people with an idea to help Limerick become a more sustainable city.
Do you have an idea?
Last year, Limerick hosted an in-person event over two intense days, brainstorming and developing ideas to help the city combat climate change at local level. This year, due to Covid-19 restrictions, we're reimagining our Climathon.
In 2020, the Climathon will be stretched out in time and run virtually. A series of sessions will take place throughout October and November, culminating on November 13, world Climathon day.
Limerick’s Climathon is part of the +CityxChange project, with four other project cities (Trondheim, Voru, Sestao, Pisek) running simultaneous connected events, and we'll all join together for a celebratory final day.

Make your local idea count
A new kind of Climathon in Limerick
The Climathon will offer participant groups a space to develop an idea or project that will contribute to the city's ability to face the challenges of climate change. Groups will be supported to brainstorm their ideas, come up with a strong project, do some research to refine the idea, and get advice from experts in the area. A final pitching session will give participant groups an opportunity to share the progress of their ideas across all seven +CityxChange cities, and the best ideas will get further support to begin implementing their project.
Over the course of a month, we'll host sessions to help you develop your idea with the help of mentors and experts. Here's how it will go:
October 12 - Launch
Participants are introduced to Climathon, and we start to design a challenge together. After this session, your team will work together to begin gathering information about your idea.
October 19 - Sense-Making
Teams begin to make sense of their ideas, and make a proper plan. You will be given support to research your idea locally.
November 2 - Development
Teams will report on new insights, and talk with local experts to get further advice. After this session, you will gather your ideas to prepare for pitching.
November 13 - World Climathon Day! Pitching & Judging
Teams will finalise projects and present to all participants. If chosen by the judges, your project will be given further support towards potential implementation in Limerick.
Win support for your idea
Teams with the best ideas will get access to support from Limerick Council and other relevant partners to accelerate their idea and/or further develop it.
