From Scraps to Sustenance: Integrating Compost in Silver City
What is Climathon?
Climathon is a city-based programme that offers a path to action and interaction. It is an opportunity for citizens to co-create ideas that address local climate challenges. Its intent is to raise climate awareness, disrupt the status quo, and rethink the places we live in and the future we want as citizens.
In these 12-72 hour events, participants are facilitated through workshops and exercises to understand the selected environmental challenge and develop a solution to it that is innovative, yet feasible.
This summer, 2811 and UGWA are hosting a Climathon in Silver City, New Mexico
This year's challenge is focused on improving waste management systems to divert food waste from landfills, enhance community compost systems and provide nutritional soil for ecological restoration.
If you have an idea or want to help transform the waste management system in Silver City, join us on Friday, July 30th and Saturday, July 31st.
Climathon Silver City will offer workshops on sustainable waste management practices and the life cycle of compost (from buying food to producing healthy soil with its wastes) and participants will be tasked with finding innovative ways to integrate compost practices at the household and community scale.
This event is made for academics, students, business leaders, and any community member aged 14 and up interested in taking action against food waste.
