Time for change. Be the change.
Are you ready to take action toward a greener future?
Nau mai haere mai ki te Climathon Waikato!
In the face of the climate crisis, we are far from powerless. Climathon is your chance to act - and, for the first time ever, this global hackathon event is coming to the Waikato region.
Will you join us?
Whoever you are, and wherever you come from, Climathon Waikato is an opportunity for you to use your skills to advance climate solutions, rethink the way we live, and create a future you're proud to pass on to the next generation.
At the heart of Climathon Waikato is an annual Ideathon (happening later this year) - where you'll be able to work in a team with fellow changemakers to imagine, explore and develop innovative solutions to our shared climate challenges.
Plus, in the lead-up to it all, you can participate in a series of interactive workshops and events, featuring thought-leaders and experts from across the region, to equip you with tools for change.
The first-ever Climathon Waikato took place online earlier this year. Our team is already busy planning the next one - check out the below links to be the first to find out more when details are revealed.
Reflecting on Climathon Waikato 2022
Earlier this year, more than 60 changemakers from across the Waikato region - including students, entrepreneurs, young professionals and creatives, came together to take part in our first-ever Climathon.
Spanning the week of March 28th - April 3rd, our virtual event provided locals with an opportunity to develop tangible solutions to some of the Waikato’s greatest climate challenges.
“Everyone showed up with a smile on their face - willing to collaborate, challenge their thinking, validate their beliefs, test their theories, knuckle down, and address these challenges. It was awe-inspiring to see and hear the participant’s ideas for climate action. I’m grateful that so many people gave up their evenings and weekend to focus on fighting climate change”, says Emma Sinclair - our Project Lead.
After a week of developing, validating, and testing ideas under the guidance of local climate heroes and experts, an online volunteer platform - Enviro Story, beat teams from all over the region, and walked away with $2, 000 to help turn their idea into reality.
Enviro Story aims to counteract the barriers that prevent people from becoming engaged as climate action volunteers via a website featuring inspirational stories and videos to empower and enable action.
E-Easy - an e-bike subscription service for young professionals and urban commuters, Climate Commons - a forum for enabling collaboration amongst climate action initiatives, Small Wins, Big Planet - a platform for celebrating climate victories also emerged with prizes across the innovation, community, youth categories respectively, while Mode Choice May - a month-long challenge for sampling a range of alternative transport options, took out the people’s choice award.
