Title of Challenge
Inteligent and sustainable transport at Warsaw
Description of city challenge
Intelligent and sustainable transport – one of the most important factors that has an influence on life quality. Responding to this challenge effectively and sustainably is a key objective for governments, authorities, institutions, organizations and citizens involved in urban development processes. Climathon gives all of us the possibility to build a green Warsaw and protect the city environment!

During the meeting we would like to pay special attention to:

(1) Green vehicles (bikes, electric and low emission engines, Vistula river transportation) which can minimaize air pollution generated by traffic

(2) Integration of public transport and traffic jams

(3) Intelligent traffic management systems

We hope that this 24h meeting will be a chance to ask questions and look for the answers important for all of us. The knowledge gained and partnerships established during the Climathon will have a significant impact on the city of Warsaw and the way it fights against climate change.

Join Climathon and take direct climate action by finding innovative solutions to local climate change problems! Climathon is supported by The City of Warsaw and the projects created during the event may be developed and implemented in the city.
City Host Organization
Institute of Geological Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences (ING PAN), is a leading Polish scientific institution in the field of Earth sciences. The main research objective of the Institute is to understand how biogeosystem works and how science and modern society can benefit from that knowledge. The research performed in the Institute concentrates mostly on: (1) deciphering environmental processes, with the emphasis on discrimination between the natural and anthropogenic forces influencing climate and biosphere (2) reconstruction of global changes in geologic and historic time scales, based on detailed studies of selected periods of Earth history as analogues of the current global warming.
ING PAN has broad experience in the research on climatic and environmental changes, among others in the recent period of the Earth’s history. The most important research is carried out in Central and Eastern Europe (from the Carpathians to the northern polar regions e.g. Poland, Ukraine, Finland) as well as in America (Mexico, Guatemala). The studies focus mainly on the analysis of lake and cave sediments, using the geochemical and biological (analysis of pollen, diatoms, cladocerans, mammals) tools. The composition of flora and fauna as well as geochemical and isotopic data allows for reconstruction of environments (including the climate) and also their evolution. In particularly the conducted studies also give contribution to the monitoring and protection of lakes, peatlands and rivers.
We believe that believe that Climathon is a great opportunity for exchange knowledge, ideas and experience for all of us.
